Recycling company Elemental Holding has announced plans for a new facility to recycle batteries and other waste that contains precious metals, to be constructed in Zawiercie, Poland. The launch of the facility is planned for 2023.

The plant will allow for the recovery and green production of nickel, cobalt, lithium and other metals and raw materials. As part of the project, recovery technology will be developed with technological universities from Wrocław and Gliwice, as well as the Łukasiewicz Research Network’s Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals.

“The recycling and reuse of metals from car batteries will lead to carbon savings of as much as 98 percent compared with their primary counterparts. It is therefore seen as a critical part of the transition to a low-carbon economy,” said Michał Zygmunt, VP of Elemental Holding.
